Wicketz is about improving the prospects of young people from disadvantaged communities and helping them gain the skills they need to thrive and realise their potential through cricket. Our free, year-round, weekly community cricket sessions engage young people living in areas of social deprivation and in some of the most diverse cities in the UK.

This is about much more than cricket – Wicketz provides opportunities for young people to develop an understanding of their own wellbeing, improve their quality of life and develop key skills such as confidence, resilience, respect, teamwork and leadership.

Through regular sessions and life skills workshops, we help create lifelong habits that promote positive futures and healthier, more cohesive communities. Integration and inclusion are a key focus – we work with a very diverse group of young people with representation from over 30 ethnic communities, bringing together participants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. We have also welcomed many from marginalised groups including young carers, refugees, excluded pupils, young offenders and others who are potentially at risk of being caught up in discrimination, crime or violence.

Girls often take part in less sport than boys but through the introduction of girls only hubs, workshops and residential festivals we are encouraging more girls to join, enjoy and benefit from Wicketz.

Working with a range of community partners to understand local challenges and inviting young people to shape their own projects, makes each project unique – from dealing with social issues such as crime and bullying in their local areas, to mental health, nutrition and safety.
